Preparing Your Family For The Dentist – Our Top Tips

May 3, 2021

If you’re about to visit Vivid Smiles for the first time with your kids, you may be wondering how you can prepare your family for the dentist and make sure their visit goes smoothly. Read on, and get some top tips from our team.

1. Schedule An Early Appointment & Bring Your Kids All At Once

Early appointments are usually the best for kids, particularly toddlers and very young kids. Children tend to have a better attitude in the mornings when they’re well-rested, particularly compared to the afternoons before their nap!

So if you have very young kids, it’s a good idea to bring them early, or to come in after their afternoon nap. If you have more than one child, it’s also a good idea to have their appointments scheduled one after the other.

Scheduling your children’s appointments on the same day means that you’ll only have to clear time in your schedule for one visit to the dentist every six months, which can make it easier to remember your child’s appointments, get an excuse from school, and get time off of work to bring them into the dentist’s office.

We also offer Saturday appointments at our office, so you may be able to book treatment for your family on the weekends if you’re having trouble making weekday appointments for your schedule.

2. Keep Your Kids Occupied

We have plenty of fun activities and stuff to do for kids at our office, but it never hurts to bring in a few more things for them to do, such as coloring books, a tablet loaded with their favorite shows, toys, and whatever else your kids need to stay occupied as they wait for their appointments at Vivid Smiles.

3. Bring In Dental Records From Past Dentists If You Have Them

If you’re new to Terre Haute or have recently switched dentists, you may be able to request dental records from your previous dentist. This can be helpful as Dr. Paruchuri and Dr. Sahai familiarize themselves with your oral health, and the oral health of your children.

However, this step is optional. If you don’t have past dental records or can’t get them from your previous dentist, that’s not a problem! The team at Vivid Smiles can still provide you with excellent dental care in Terre Haute.

4. Do Something Special To Celebrate After Your Appointments

It’s important to try to build positive associations with dental visits, particularly for young kids. So consider doing something special after your family dentist appointment, such as taking your kids to the park so that they can play and have fun, enjoying a meal at their favorite restaurant, or taking them shopping for a new toy.
